Maternity self-employed persons 2026: sickness insurance, conditions and amount of the PPM
The sickness insurance of the OSVČ, the conditions of the maternity and orientation level of the PPM in 2026 Financial reserve and consultation: Ostrava, Olomouc, Prague, Brno and online.
The mother-in-law of the self-employed in 2026 begins by checking the sickness insurance, not by calculating the percentage of the bill. The child's allowance in the mother-in-law of the child is the sickness insurance allowance. The employer applies for this insurance on a voluntary basis; compulsory pension and health benefits do not replace it.
Below you will find claim conditions, minimum insurance, examples of the above parent and time line of preparation. In addition to the claim at CSSR, you can also solve your own balance sheet: the parent and parental allowance are different benefits and do not have to cover today's household expenses.
- Check for participation in sickness insurance, not just health and pension insurance payments.
- For PPM, 270 days of participation for the last two years are assessed and 180 days for the last year before the IP for the EEAS. These 180 days are part of a total of 270s.
- Count on the date of taking up the PPM, not until the date of childbirth; the specific claim is confirmed by the CSZs.
- Enter your own certified dose estimate into the budget and plan a provision for a fall in income separately.
It's not just the sick. It's the money during maternity.
When planning a family, equipment for the child and the living are often dealt with. However, the same question is what will the household live on when one income falls. Incapacity insurance is not only a protection in incapacity: it is the one that pays money in maternity, commonly referred to as maternity or PPM when it comes to the conditions. For entrepreneurs, early registration and correct payment history can decide whether or not they receive this benefit at all.
The amounts and rules below refer to 2026. At a later date, check the rules for the year in question. This is a general explanation, not a confirmation of your claim.
Incapacity insurance, maternity and parental allowance are not the same
| Term | What does it mean? | What is important for the budget |
|---|---|---|
| Insurance against sickness | Public insurance against which benefits, including sickness and PPM, are paid upon fulfilment of the conditions. | Payment of insurance is not the amount you will receive every month. |
| Financial assistance in motherhood (PPM) | The sickness insurance benefit paid by the CSSR generally before and in the first months after the birth. | It depends on participation in insurance, insurance bases and other conditions. |
| Parental allowance | A separate benefit of state social support, which is addressed by the Labour Office. | It does not arise from the payment of sickness insurance; it has its own conditions and rules of drawing. |
| Commercial life insurance | A private contract with an insurance company for the agreed risks. | It shall not replace participation in public sickness insurance and shall not itself give entitlement to the PPM. |
In addition, maternity leave and parental leave are job vacationnames, not lady names. The right to leave and the right to money is to be assessed separately. A woman without entitlement to the PPM can apply for parental leave from birth, subject to conditions; the absence of PPM does not automatically mean the absence of any support.
Entitlement to maternity leave with the self-employed: conditions 270 and 180 days
In the case of a worker who is a member of a sickness insurance scheme, the insurance is paid within the limits of the salary. Not every agreement or income is, however, established by the participation. For the PPM there is usually a need for continuing insurance on taking up the benefit or the corresponding withdrawal period and at least 270 calendar days of participation in the last two years. The periods of different insured employment can be counted according to the rules.
The sickness insurance is voluntary for the self-employed. Compulsory payments of pension and health insurance do not replace it; it is also paid separately for flat-rate schemes. For the self-employed PPM must be completed at least 180 days of sickness insurance for the last year before the start and at the same time 270 days of participation in the last two years. These 180 days are counted into a total of 270 days, not 450 days of accumulated.
Time alone: counts the onset of the dose, not the day of birth
- Prior to the planned pregnancy: verify the current participation in insurance, possible gaps and also the registration, payment and permissible assessment basis for the SSC
- Before joining the PPM: the time conditions of 270 days must be met and 180 days for the self-employed. Subscription may be late, especially without previous insured employment.
- Six to eight weeks before the expected birth: a woman chooses to join the PPM within the legal range. On this date, the conditions of the claim are assessed.
- The period of PPM: normally 28 weeks in the mother, when two or more children are born and 37 weeks in the condition. Part of this period runs before childbirth.
- Another childcare period: plan separately the drawing of the parental contribution, other household income and return to work.
A protective period may be important at the end of the pregnancy. However, there is no universal requirement for another 180 days for each situation. It depends, inter alia, on the length and type of previous insurance; check the specific transition between employment and business with the CSSZs.
Sickness insurance: how much is paid and how is maternity insurance calculated?
In 2026, the rate of voluntary sickness insurance is 2.7 % of the monthly basis. The minimum base is CZK 9,000 and the minimum monthly payment is CZK 243. This amount is insured, not monthly. The PPM is 70 % of the reduced daily assessment base per calendar day, not 70 % of the net wage or invoicing.
The daily basis is usually determined from the previous 12 calendar months. For an employee from insured income, for an OVČ from the monthly basis of sickness insurance. For the PPM in 2026, up to 1,633 CZK of daily basis is counted 100 CZK, in the range up to CZK 2,449 60 CZK, in the range up to CZK 4,897 % and above the third border already nothing. The actual calculation affects the relevant period, the excluded days and the legal rounding.
| Model situation | What's come from | Indicative PPM in 30 days |
|---|---|---|
| Self-employed persons without sickness insurance | There is no participation in the sickness insurance of the OSVČ. | This business does not give rise to a right to a PPM; any entitlement to employment is assessed separately. |
| SCIENTIFIC with a minimum payment of CZK 243 per month | Permanent monthly base of CZK 9,000 in the whole period. | Approximately 6,200 CZK if all the requirements of the claim are met. |
| Employee with gross wage 40 000 CZK per month | Fixed insured income throughout the model period. | Approximately 27600 CZK if all the requirements of the claim are met. |
Examples use 12 equal monthly bases, 365 days without excluded days and the reduction limit for the entry in 2026 Amounts are intentionally approximate: the benefit is paid for calendar days, therefore months with 28, 30 and 31 days differ. The comparison is not a comparison of the same net income of the employee and businesswoman and is not a calculation of your claim.
The higher payment at the last minute is not an abbreviation for high maternity
The maximum monthly base is usually based on the average of the determined basis of assessment on the last overview of income and expenditure; an overview of the above three years is not to be taken into account. If the maximum amount cannot be determined from it, another legal rule applies. The flat-rate scheme has its specifications. Moreover, higher permissible payment is projected to the relevant period, not automatically to all previous months. Before the change of payments check your limit and history for the CSSP.
Financial reserve for motherhood: how to cover the household income fall
The model household needs 15 000 CZK per month from the future mother after counting the other income. If its PPM is based on the minimum insurance of the SPV for approximately CZK 6,200 per 30 days, there is a gap of about 8,800 Kč. In six model months it is only an example of the planned gap, not a universal recommended reservation. Equipment for accommodation, irregular expenses and later periods of the parental allowance are calculated especially.
That is why it makes sense to distinguish between two questions: I will have a claim and will be a household with this amount based on it. The reserve can help bridge the planned income decline but does not create a benefit. Likewise, life insurance does not automatically pay for maternity or normal care for healthy children; the potential performance depends on the specific risks and conditions of the contract.
Can I continue to do business during maternity?
However, when using the PPM from the sickness insurance, the self-employed activity from which you receive the benefit may not be automatically cancelled or interrupted: the operation may be provided by employees or cooperating persons. The employment restrictions apply to the PPM from which the benefit is paid.
How to link the article to your own financial plan
- In the household figure, add up regular expenses and separate consumption from savings. For the motherhood period, use the realistic expected income of the whole household.
- In the Financial Plan, capture the reserve and targets in time. Do not consider the planned fall in income in childcare as an insurance event; plan the maternity plan separately from the optional disease scenario.
- Use the Receipt Outage Calculator for a separate disease risk. Employee planning estimate in this calculator is not a legal calculation of PPM.
- PDF outputs are taken as a basis for consulting budget, reserve and objectives. None of these calculators verifies participation in insurance or determines entitlement to maternity care.
A specific claim and calculation of the PPM is confirmed by the CSSZ; the parental contribution is handled by the Office of Labour. With Aleš, you can go through financial impact on the household and continuity to the reserve and other objectives.
